I am a local artist, qualified teacher and gallery worker and together with the Curator of Visual Art have devised a series of workshops that are linked to and inspired by this incredible exhibition.
Session 1: 7th Jan 2012- Drawing from Observation
Together we will explore the materials, process and content of the exhibition “Once upon a Time” and then develop our skills at drawing from direct observation.
Session 2: 14th Jan 2012 - Developing a Character and writing our own story
We will create our own character, taking inspiration from some of the finest children’s illustrators works, making a range of exploratory developmental drawings.
Session 3: 21stJan 2012 - Making a Story Board
Using our own character and story from the previous session, or quickly developed this session, we will produce a story board with text and illustrations that develops our drawing and storytelling skills.
Session 4: 28th Jan 2012 - Making a Folding Book Beginning my Illustrations
Artists books come in a variety of shapes and sizes. We will construct our own storybook and start to make our final artwork.
Session 5: 4thFeb 2012 - Continuing to Develop my Book
We will continue to develop and refine our storybook illustrations in this session.
Session 6: 11th Feb 2012 - Completing My Book
Please note some of the sessions may change slightly depending on the skills, knowledge and understanding of the participants but if children attend each session the project outcome will be their own unique illustrated storybook.
